Wheel size? Whats too big?

Postby OK91lx » Sat May 11, 2013 8:01 am

So looking to replace the wheels that were on the Jeep when I got it. Adding the RK 2.5 lift and 35's. Trying to make the decision if I should go with a 17" or 18" rim. I don't expect to be rock crawling this thing anytime soon as the wife is afraid I'll treat it like my ATV. What's everyone's thoughts?

17's are cheaper than 18's. tires and wheels. 15's will fit with a little grinding on the calipers.

I ran 15s for 10 years. I finally had to switch to 16s. The tires are easier to find and I can fit better brakes now.

I recommend against 15.

17s are the new 15s so to speak. It seems to me in 17s you have a much better selection of tread patterns and sizes available than you do in 18s, and they are cheaper. Another good rule of thumb is that the outside diameter of the tires should always be at least twice the diameter of the wheels.
