How many hrs for 3 inch lift?

Postby fenixboy87 » Mon Apr 01, 2013 10:49 am

Hey everybody. I'm still pretty new to my jeep lifestyle (bare with me). Bought a 96 2 dr XJ back in October and have finally purchased a 3 inch lift. Yay me. I have a mechanic that I have used for most of my smaller issues and a NAPA shop for any thing I have deemed "major" issues. However, the NAPA shop doesn't touch aftermarkets and this mechanic just estimated my 3 inch Rusty's add-a-leaf would take 9 hours to install. This particular mechanic already had $100 in labor that he "owed" me from some wheels and tires I had bartered him. So, it's tough to not employ him when I know I have a bit of credit to use. On that note, 9 hours is sounding pretty far fetched. So, just wondering is the consensus that 8-9 hrs is far too long an estimate of time. And are there any "Jeep reliable" mechanics that any one can recommend for installing my lift?

If anyone is asking why I don't just do it myself...the answer is because I really wouldn't trust myself to install it?

Thanks in advance.

It depends how rusty everything underneath was. My xj took awhile but it's older and had some rusty bolts, that required some heating, some cussing, big cheater bars an some cutting up the frame when the nut broke loose. But my kit was also a little more intensive.

My opinion, not the club's, is that NAPA is one of the pricier shops in the state.

The 4x4 (like 4Wheel Parts) shops will lift your vehicle for a couple hundred. For even less you could buy a cheap impact wrench, jack stands and floor jack and do it yourself.

If you do it yourself buy your bolts at Atwoods or Tractor Supply. They sell them by the pound.

Ya know. Over the course of the day I've been slowly trying to talk myself into the idea that I could do it. I've watched some videos online and feel like it's possible ... if only I had more room and a dream of a tool box. Isn't there supposed to be a guy who raises his hand and says something like "buy me a 30 pack and I'll do it"?

buy me a 30 pack and I'll do it

well ill twist a wrench, smoke and drink, break your junk and drive home...

On a more serious note, the rusty's kit is fairly straight forward.

not many specialty tools required, just a little patience.

ill be glad to lend a hand if you would like to tackle this yourself,

We finished a 30 pack and were working on rum when we painted my jeep. I'm actually proud of the paint job when you consider the $15 Harbor Freight gun + 105F weather and alcohol consumption.

Hahaha...So it sounds like we have takers on the 30 pack. I'm actually getting pretty frustrated with the situation. Thinking I might ought to put the lift for sale and wait until another day.

If I didn't live on the other side of the state id say bring it by and I'd help do it. if you find someone closer, and I'm off that day I can come help.
