Flexplate Info

I learned the hard way. In 1987 and 1988 there are two styles of flexplates for the Wrangler with a 4.2L 2BBl. To determine which one you need you have to know your vin code letter (whatever that is???) Anyway, if you have the vin code T or M you need a Pioneer FRA-410 or whatever cross-references to that.

If you have any other letter you can use the FRA-108, which fits almost every AMC, International and Jeep engine built between 1969 to 1988.

Why are there two...I do not know. But the only difference is the ring gear on the FRA-108 is located 3/8th of an inch further back than the FRA-410. So if you install the 108 your starter will not be able to engage the ring gear and the only remedy is to put the correct flexplate on it.
