Need Some Help!!

Postby OkieLJ » Fri Dec 21, 2012 11:43 am

For christmas I am getting a regear which was much needed. While at the shop they noticed that my ball joints were pretty shot. The place said they would do it for almost $700 which is ridiculous since I can get the ball joints, upper and lower, left and right, for about $100 shipped and the its just my labor. My only problem is I am at home for winter break and left most of my tools at school which is in Kansas. Does anyone have a pickle fork, jack stands, and a ball joint press that can help me knock this out. It is not hard to do but it just takes some time. I know it is around christmas time and everyone is busy but ill be here till around the 6th of january. If I could get some help I would really appreciate it. There is also a case of beer that will need some attention on the project as well.

I understand why they want so much...those are a pain to do. I need a set up front too. I'm just gonna replace them as I break axle shafts.

You get what you pay for with those house brand ball joints. Go with the NAPA Federated brand or Moog.

Sorry for the late reply. My parents moved into a neighborhood that does not let anyone work on there cars in there drive ways or in an open garage, so I am going to have to pay to get it done. Can not wait till i am done with school so I can have my own garage.

Lol. Yeah I live in one of those and have the HOA. It didn't stop me from doing ball joints on my axles though. I waited until 10am until I brought out the impact and sledge.

If you own the house you realize the situation:
1. Neighbor A is a senator that won't turn you in to the HOA because he needs your votes.
2. Neighbor B is always 2 seconds away from a noise complaint due to his dogs. We're trading evils.
3. Neighbor C is the wife's coworker and is an engineer who loves hearing about the projects.
And so on...
...
I bet your folks are like mine and don't want you tearing up / occupying the entire garage.

Having your own house rocks. I advise getting a good job and getting a 3 car garage or shop.
